What is pension capital?
The new pension rules refer to pension capital. This means that you accrue capital for your pension. Under this scheme, the amount of your pension benefit is not fixed in advance. On retirement, the pension capital ultimately provides for a monthly pension.

We can explain it as follows:
The social partners agreed to adopt a solidarity-based defined contribution scheme for our fund.

 Pension capital =

Pension contributions + allocated investment returns

Pension contributions:
Each month, the pension fund contributes money for your pension. This contribution consists of a part paid by you (your premium) and a part paid by your employer. How much you pay is shown on your payslip. A (small) part of the contribution goes towards insuring the partner’s and orphan’s pensions, disability benefit and the cost of running your pension scheme.

Investment results:
The pension fund invests the contributions so that the pension capital can grow over the long term. When investments do well, the pension capital grows. When the fund’s investments do not perform well, your pension capital grows more slowly or not at all.

The solidarity premium scheme includes a solidarity reserve. This is like a collective piggy bank. It is there to absorb large fluctuations in current pension payments.

We spread the investment risks:
We invest in different companies, in different sectors and countries. Suppose a certain sector or country does not perform as well for a while, we then compensate for this with our investments in other sectors and/or countries. How well investments do depends, among other things, on financial market supply and demand, investor confidence and economic conditions.
